Objective To investigate the influence of cigarette smoking amount on the blood lipid level in patients with hypertension and to provide the basis for CHD prevention and treatment. Methods 204 of volunteers including 105 smokers and 99 non-smokers were selected to be investigated their smoking history by epidemiological questionnaire. They were divided into 4 groups according to the amount of smoking cigarettes (Group 0: non-smoking; Group 1: <100 cigarettes per year; Group 2: <200cigarettes per year; and Group 3: >200 Cigarettes per year). The level of blood lipids in patients with hypertension and controls were detected. Results The blood levels of TC, TG, and LDL in group 1to 3 were significantly higher than thatin group 0 (P＜0.01). The level of HDL in group 3 was significantly lower than in group 0 (P＜0.01). Conclusion Smoking is one of the risk factor leading to abnormality of blood lipid and may result in hypertension. The cigarette smoking may affect the prevention and cure to hypertension.
