Abstract：Objective To establish normal reference interval of serum thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) in Urumqi area. Methods According to the NACB guide line for thyroid disease diagnosis requirements, 893 apparently healthy individuals (359 male, 534 female) age of 18 to 84 from one of Urumqi community were involved in this study. The serum TSH levels were detected and thyroid ultrasound examination was carried out. Results The serum TSH levels in youth group were significantly lower than that of middle and older-aged group (P＜0.01). There was no significantly difference on TSH level between middle age and elder-aged group. The levels of serum TSH in female were higher than that of male in the same age range people (P＜0.001). Regardless of gender differences, the levels of serum TSH in Han nationality were higher than that of Uygur (P＜0.05 for male, P＜0.001 for female). Conclusion The reference interval of serum TSH levels in female is higher than that of male, and Han nationality is higher than that of Uygur nationality.
