Abstract

Abstract: Beta2-glycoprotein I (β2-GPI) combined with oxidized low density lipoprotein or lipoprotein (a) in vivo could generate the β2-GPI/ox-LDL or β2-GPI/ox-Lp(a) complexes respectively. Patients with autoimmune diseases at high risk of atherosclerosis or cardio-/cerebrovascular diseases exhibited the increased levels of β2-GPI/ox-LDL and β2-GPI/ox-Lp(a) in their serum. The complexes also showed the close associations with enhanced oxidative stress and inflammation in vivo. These data indicate that β2-GPI/ox-LDL and β2-GPI/ox-Lp(a) may be the novel risk indictors to predict the pathogenesis and progression of atherosclerosis. This review summarized the studies related to the detection methods and clinical significance of β2-GPI complexes with oxidized lipoproteins.
