Abstract

Abstract: Objective To assess the current iodine nutrition levels in Shenzhen to add into the data pool for fully establishment of evidence. Methods Totally 352 cases from four areas of Shenzhen city were selected randomly with stratified cluster random sampling method. The morning urine samples were collected to determine iodine levels. Results The median urinary iodine (MUI) concentrations was 101.9μg/L with a range of 34.7~518.4μg/L in all sample. Among them, 50% were <100μg/L whilst 26.4% were >300μg/L. Conclusion The iodine status in the sample of Shenzhen adults was appropriate according to WHO requirement of MUI, though almost half of them was under the level, while a quarter is higher than that, indicating a demand for more individualized monitoring system at the time of USI continuation.
