Abstract

Objective To explore the situation of Helicobacter Pylori infection in the all age group of patients with gastrointestinal symptoms. Methods A total of 2275 outpatients and inpatients in our hospital with the gastrointestinal symptoms including chronic upper abdominal pain and hemorrhage were collected. 1058 males and 1217 females, aged from 2 to 88 years old (mean 40.25±19.79) were received 13C–Urea breath test (13C–UBT) in Suzhou Municipal Hospital. The 13C–UBT results were analyzed to detect the incidence of helicobacter pylori infection. Results According to the results of 13C –UBT test, 40.77% were HP positive in all these 2275 patients, while 39.13% were positive in the 1058 male cases, 42.23% were positive in the 1217 female cases. The 13C–UBT levels were significantly higher in females than that of males (P < 0.01). Among all age groups, patients at 31~45 years old group had highest rate of HP infection (48.40%). Compare to under 15 years old group, adults group have higher rate of HP infection (p<0.01). Conclusion Patients at 31~45 years old group have highest rate of HP infection. It is necessary for us to focus on these patients. Education should be strengthened in order to increase people’s knowledge of HP infection. Early diagnosis and treatment will effectively prevent and control the gastrointestinal disease.
