Abstract

Objective To investigate the etiology of viral diarrhea among Tangshang region, the complication cased by common virus in different age group and the economic burden for the family at different age hospitalized patients. Methods The study was conducted in suspected patients in 5 large comprehensive hospitals of Tangshan. All the viruses including Rotavirus, Norovirus, Astrovirus and Adenovirus were detected once a week by ELISA. 30 positive specimens were random sent to Beijing CIC Clinical research institute for determination of genotype by RT-PCR. Results Among 869 samples, the positive rotavirus accounted for 346, norovirus accounted for 155, astrovirus accounted for 65, and adenovirus accounted for 99. The genotype of rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus and adenovirus were G3P [8], GII, AstvI and Hadvs41 respectively. The rotavirus could cause myocardium, liver damage, seizures and encephalitis. Adenovirus caused pneumonia and severe cases could cause complicating acute respiratory distress syndrome, and failure. Norovirus and astrovirus almost did not cause other complications. The disease burden in children was much higher than that of in other people. Conclusion The viral diarrhea molecular biology in Tang shan area is in line with other regions, The rotavirus with the genotype G3P [8] is dominated and cause most complication and it brings the heaviest burden in children.
