Abstract: Objective To investigate the safety and efficacy of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) method in the treatment of thyroid nodules. Methods 20 cases patients with solitary benign thyroid solid nodules were treated with high intensity focused ultrasound therapy. After treatment, the nodule size and blood supply were followed-up with conventional ultrasound, and the incidence of complications were observed in the monitoring of thyroid function. A group of 20 cases with solitary thyroid nodule without any treatment were selected as control group. Results The treatment group of 20 cases were successfully carried out in high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) treatment, postoperative follow-up sonography nodule volume was gradually reduced (P<0.05), blood flow signals disappeared. The thyroid function before and after treatment had no significant changes (P>0.05). The control group was followed up for 6 months and thyroid nodule volume showed no significant change (P>0.05).Conclusion High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is the treatment of benign thyroid nodules with high safety, less trauma, strong controllability, exact curative effect and may have a great clinical potential.
