Abstract

Objective: To establish the reference ranges of serum uric acid (SUA) and analyze the correlation between serum uric acid and estradiol (E2) in postmenopausal women. Methods 166 postmenopausal women over the age of 55 and 139 non- menopause women were selected, the serum levels of SUA and E2 in these patients were detected. The statistical analysis of the data was performed using SPSS version 16.0 software. Results The 95% confidence interval of serum SUA in postmenopausal women was 143.3-492.2 umol/L), it was higher than that of non- menopause women (P<0.05). The serum E2 levels was negatively correlated with SUA (r=-0.593,P<0.01). Conclusion It is necessary to establish postmenopausal-specific reference ranges of serum SUA, there are negative correlation between E2 and SUA. The serum levels of E2 might be used as biomarkers for diagnosis of hyperuricemia in postmenopausal women.
